Show Off Your Star Power Get Into The Arts

The arts a huge part of student life in the UK and art schools have produced some of the most talented actors, singers and performers in the world over the last few decades. If you are looking to make your dream come true in the field of the arts this year, here are some things you can do while applying for university to show off your stuff and stand out from the crowd.

Get headshots

One of the first things you will want to do for yourself if you are applying for a drama school position is headshots. Headshots are like a calling card for actors and other performers and they will give an immediate impression of who you are and the sort of roles you would fit into. You can hire a professional photographer to take some headshots and candid shots of you to show to the admissions board.

Have a portfolio

If you want to stand out from the other applicants to a school such as The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance you need to show off your stuff. If you sing or play an instrument you can create a CD which includes some recordings of your work. Similarly, for an actor, you can create a video in which you act a few famous scenes from film and TV to the camera. These things can make a huge difference when applying for the arts because they will truly show the admissions board what you are capable of and where your talent really lies.

Know your image

Image is always a big part of being a star and when you apply for arts and drama school image will always be something in the back of people’s minds. Try to identify the vibe you are going for with your look and sound and this will become your identity later down the line. When it comes to choosing your image, you want to think about something which will make you stand out and make you different from everyone else. When we look at artists like Lady Gaga with he wacky style or Jessie J with that statement black bob… these are the kind of things you want to create for yourself before university starts so that from day one you are seen as in icon amongst everyone else. Play around a little and only choose something you are genuinely comfortable with and something you can carry with you for the rest of your career.

Trust yourself

It is so important as a musician or actor that you trust in your own ability from day one and never let anyone else’s opinion get you down and make you feel small. You have the potential to do great things but sometimes you will face criticism and rejection. These are things you have to learn from and be strengthened by in order to be the best you can be. Don’t doubt yourself and show confidence in your university interview and you should have no issues becoming a success.
