University of South Wales

The University of South Wales (USW) was recently created in April 2013, merging together the University of Wales, Newport and the University of Glamorgan. There are campuses based in Pontypridd, Newport and Cardiff, enabling students to study alongside beautiful countryside, breath-taking beaches and the city life in the Welsh capital.

The university has four faculties spread across its three campuses around the region:

  • Faculty of Business and Society
  • Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science
  • Faculty of Creative Industries
  • Faculty of Life Sciences and Education

There are three campuses throughout South Wales, Newport City Campus based in the heart of Newport, Cardiff Campus, home to Creative Industries students, and Pontypridd Campus which is made up of two sites: Treforest and Glyntaff. The campus is divided into several buildings, with a Student Union, indoor sports centre and Halls of Residence on-site.

The university has been recognised as ‘leading’, in areas such as nursing, architecture, media studies and communication. It is also part of the University of South Wales Group, which comprises of Merthyr Tydfil College and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama – which has a reputation for producing successful poets and authors, including Emma Darwin and Camilla Way.

Our student reviews have praised the area for being welcoming and friendly – offering good facilities and links to their chosen industry.
